 Subaru of America, through its in-house performance division Subaru Performance Tuning, will present at least three tuner models at SEMA 2009. Two are based on passenger cars while the third is a blast from the past. Top of the list is an SPT Impreza WRX STI which owners of stock units can practically build on their own using a catalogue of parts.
It runs a 2.5-litre turbo engine making 232kW (315hp) at 6,000rpm and peak torque remains at 393Nm (290 lb-ft) at 4,000rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed close ratio ‘box that sends power to all four wheels. The suspension has been upgraded with an SPT lower chassis brace, an SPT strut tower brace and STI performance springs. Wheels and tyres are 19 x 8.5 and 245/35R19 Michelin Pilot Sports respectively.
The exterior includes an STI front lip spoiler and SPT exhaust finishers. Inside you find things like a media hub digital music integration system and an STI shift knob.
The second car is called the Legacy 2.5GT VIP and features a lowered ride, a Japanese-sourced bonnet, sport grille, front and rear under spoilers and HID headlights among others. VIP (or "bippu" in Japanese) treatment continues with a chrome boot garnish, flared fenders, a touch screen, JBL amplifiers, diamond stitch seats and illuminated sill plates.
Power comes from the 2.5 turbo with 195kW (265hp) and 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, driven by a 6-speed manual transmission Subaru's and Continuous Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
Lastly a blast from the past in the form of a fully-restored SPT Parts Delivery Van based on a 1969 example. Being a delivery van it has a 356cc (0.4-litre) 2-cylinder engine making 18kW (25hp) and 34Nm (25 lb-ft) of torque.
